WELCOME TO VAC-AN FOUNDATION— JOSÉ VÁZQUEZ CEREIJO’S LEGACY
The VAC-AN Foundation was created with the firm purpose of preserving, sharing and revitalizing the extensive cultural legacy of the Lugo-born painter, graphic artist, poet, publisher and collector. José Vázquez Cereijo, born in Lugo, was one of the most singular figures in Galician and Spanish art of the 20th and begining of the 21st century.
His artistic and intellectual journey knew no bounds: he trained in his hometown, established links with creators such as Maruja Mallo, Gregorio Prieto, Juan Manuel Bonet and Andrés Trapiello, and participated in projects that led him to exhibit in Spain and abroad, including fairs such as ARCO. In 1998 he received the National Prize for Graphic Art, recognizing the quality and depth of his work.
His work — painting, graphic art and poetry — combines mysticism, memory and dream, offering an inquisitive look at the world. He was also a passionate collector, gathering old books, objects and cultural references that nourished his artistic creation.
Led by his widow, Anne Nikitik, the foundation is located in the neighborhood of A Milagrosa, a place closely linked to the artist’s memory. The official presentation took place at the Museo Interactivo de la Historia de Lugo, in an event full of commitment to cultural heritage.
The project goes beyond exhibiting artwork. It seeks to integrate Cereijo’s work with his collections, objects and personal library, creating thematic exhibitions that engage in dialogue and offer a deeper understanding of his universe. The Foundation also promotes cultural initiatives such as educational activities, artistic residencies and innovative formats like the videopodcast “VAC-AN Dialogues,” exploring art, society and cultural identity through the artist’s legacy.
The VAC-AN Foundation aspires to be a living space for memory, creativity and encounter, where José Vázquez Cereijo’s legacy continues to inspire future generations and contribute to the enrichment of culture in Galicia and beyond.
